I've been busy. And here's why:
October 2011 Happily working at ArenaNet on Guild Wars 2
October 2011 Left ArenaNet to happily work at 343 Industries!
...ON HALO 4.
December 2011 Finished building my new computer and started doing some contract work!
...FOR HAWKEN.
February 2011 Started another contract
...FOR AUTODESK.
...all while working on Halo 4. So much change, but so much fun. Here are a few videos for the things I've been busy with!
__________
Halo 4
Pretty exciting to finally see the hard work of 343 Industries coming together.
__________
Hawken
I did some explosion work for the Hawken devs
__________
Autodesk
For this project, I was contacted by one of the three devs working with Autodesk to do some effects work. I wasn't too clear on what we were working towards, but was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was being demoed at GDC. Hyperspace Madness served as a demonstration of Autodesk products being used together for a game develped in two months, start to finish.
I will post some in-game videos of the work I did in the near future. Enjoy!

FX Jibber Jabber
I had the privilege of contributing towards ArenaNet's blog post regarding the Battle of Kyhlo PvP map. Effects on a PvP map outside of player skills?? How so? Let's just say that there were some large fireballs that needed fire. And smoke. And explosions.

Sneaky, sneaky
For what it's worth, I have not been posting any fun fluid sim tests, but only because I have a great excuse.
At work, I have been working tirelessly to make Guild Wars 2's latest revealed class, the Engineer, look like a explosive-dealing, gun-toting, mechanical champ! The videos in the link only show a nugget of the Engineer's explosive potential.
Much like these two classy blokes.
Or this guy...
Why are you still reading? Go look at the Engineer.

You bought Singularity, right?
So I was planning on posting this many moons ago, but things got busy. I relocated my life, started working again, and reacquainted myself with fresh air (side note: Wisconsin air smelled like cow).
While at Raven, I was asked to do a blog post about visual effects in Singularity's multiplayer. I was responsible for the creatures, soldiers, and various mechanical objects that the players interacted with. It was a lot of fun to work on and a great excuse to play multiplayer much longer than necessary. Don't worry, I was "testing" stuff.
Developer Diary
I hope to elaborate on this very soon as I had to keep some of the nerd details out. Nerds gonna nerd. Oh, and I may soon have some fantastic Guild Wars 2 stuff to show off!
Anyway, enjoy

A guy walks into work...
After 14 months, my time at Raven Software has come to an end.
It was a great time of artistic growth and friendships. I wish Raven all the best and look forward to seeing great things from them in the future.
This puts my current FX tests on hold while I explore my options. Like playing tennis. Or packing.
Thanks, y'all. I'll be back.

Weekend Render
To my surprise, the fire came out pretty uniform. Well, too uniform for my taste. It's a good start for me though. I'll be refining this through the week. Maybe sooner. Once it gets done, I'll turn it into a flipbook and see how it looks in Unreal or Source.
